In November 2021, Sean Riley and The Legendary Tigerman resumed their journey together. Starting from where they had been in 2018 with California – an album recorded in motels during a road trip in the North American state – they are now returning to records with Andalusia. Initially pointing to Tangier – following the beat generation route – they wanted the contingencies and vicissitudes of the pandemic that, tired of waiting, got in the car and drove to the south of Spain. Passionate about the photography of an old fisherman’s hut, they headed to the coast and there they found the shelter where, once again, they improvised a studio in an unusual space. During three nights and three days they recorded this EP with their eyes set on the sea. The recording and production was once again in charge of Paulo Furtado (The Legendary Tigerman), who this time was also responsible for the arrangements and for all the additional instrumentation to the guitar and voice of Afonso Rodrigues (Sean Riley). Registered in a simple and naked way, Andalusia is a tribute to friendship and the love of music.

Premiere of Animal Sentimental, Mísia’s new project. Feelings, that ineffable material that inspires poets and artists from so many other areas, are treasures that only weigh on the soul. Misia is well aware of this. This female artist, fado singer, singer, actress, storyteller of her own and others, is the first to admit that she is a sentimental animal The expression serves as the title of a new album, released worldwide on April 29, guided by herself and Wolf-Dieter Karwatky, an award-winning German producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in classical music, collected Grammys and added projects from success stamped by Deutsche Grammophon, a new chapter in an acclaimed career spanning three decades and with wide international recognition. This new project is part of an ambitious triptych: the disc; a book that, she guarantees, will be made up of poetic episodes and humorous and sentimental moments, of small tragedies of a long life path that goes back to childhood memories and which, from 1991 onwards, began to be fixed on increasingly successful records. and artistic ambition; and the concert, debuting at the Museu do Oriente, the opportunity to take all that – the stories and songs, […]
Alejandro Casona invites us to join the sophisticated Suicidal Club. It is a clinic specialized in offering the patient – a suicide candidate – a perfect death. Morbid? Not at all. The text fulfills the idea of a famous phrase by its author: “There is nothing so serious that it cannot be said with a smile”. Thus, this comedy – with refined and intelligent humor – de-dramatizes a taboo theme, summoning death to interrogate and honor life, because «Living is not just a right. It is above all a duty » Source: https://agendalx.pt/events/event/e-proibido-suicidar-se-na-primavera/
Democrash started in mid-2014 to play what they knew and felt like without being worried about the end result. Crossing rock with punk and funk, new wave/no wave, vintage electronics and white noise, performance and art punk, always leaving many edges unfinished in a combination of energy applied to instruments and microphones, giving its final sound a unfinished environment with a screaming explosive charge. Democrash’s themes are essentially about what is (or isn’t) art, fame, what makes yourself recognizable, rock clichés and rock stars and music critics. Its sound is also inspired by science fiction (Philip K. Dick), art brut and personality unfoldings… The tracks are raw and reminiscent of a half-rock, half-garage punk that smells like the 70s/80s. The energy and determination they put into the music that comes out of their body and mind is enhanced by what they manage to convey to the listener and taster, who suddenly feels invaded by a whirlwind of sensations that make him shake. In recent years they have played in some of the iconic venues on the Portuguese rock circuit, such as Sabotage Rock Club, Popular Alvalade and SMUP. They went through festivals such as the Gliding Barnacles festival, Festival Impulso, […]

About four years ago, Mary Lattimore visited us with Meg Baird, about “Ghost Forests” (Three Lobed Recordings). 2018 was a key year for Lattimore, both that album and “Hundreds Of Days”, in her own name, her second release on Ghostly International, cemented her name in the vast world of experimental music that wants to boost other poles. If there was any doubt, the celebrated “Silver Ladders” (Ghostly International, 2020), produced by Neil Halstead (Slowdive), fixed the matter with seven beautiful compositions that know how to exist in an extensive and open musical world, in permanent suspension. It’s no wonder it made the Wire, Pitchfork, New Yorker, or Quietus best of the year lists. The Los Angeles resident harpist has a knack for discrediting this time thing. The harmonies and cadences that she develops in her instrument of choice suspend, with immediate effect, a series of permanences of reality. Hence, listening to Mary Lattimore is to step away for a few moments and accept that the delicacies and transmissions/transactions of emotions are important and require a break. It is important, then, to be available for Lattimore’s harp and its sound narratives, to feel everything as a sensorial release, with light and […]
They could be an obscure band from any compilation of musical rescue in time as Soul Jazz Records has got us used to so well. But fortunately Pelada definitely belong in the here and now – with all that sense of urgency that the moment brings. Chris Vargas and Tobias Rochman are the Canadian duo with global characteristics, in essence and in style, that knows no borders to art as a reflection of reality. They bring an indelible punk mentality, without prophecies or theories. They take issues related to the female condition and the monster of capital (and other metaphorical crows that fly over our society) as fuel. In tune with this time, they sign for the Latin voice of Vargas and the abrasive electronics of Rochman, genuine garage bangers. The ironic confrontation in the combination of these elements makes them an irresistible force. <em>Movimento Para Cambio</em> was a bullet in 2019, coming with the seal of PAN, this larger house that in the past has offered us fixtures such as Yves Tumor, Arca or Eartheater. A record full of effervescent ideas and mundane chronicles, we listen to Chicago acid house flirting with exploratory reggaeton or a more visceral Afro […]
The Gaiteiros de Lisboa have strong connections to an important part of the history of Portuguese music, having played with people as diverse as José Afonso, José Mário Branco, Sérgio Godinho, Fausto or even Trovante and Sétima Legião. When they emerged with the now classic Invasões Barbaras, in 1995, Gaiteiros de Lisboa revolutionized Portuguese popular music, respecting the roots, but daring to look to the future. Since then, they have edited a series of works highly applauded by the specialized critics: Bocas do Inferno (1997), Macaréu (2002), Sátiro (2005), Avis Rara (2012) and Bestiário (2019) have always won prominent places in the lists of best works. of their respective years, a sign of a high degree of quality that runs through all their work. And this is exactly the starting point for the new show, a creative journey through some of the most remarkable moments of a work that extends beyond the official discography – Os Demônios do Meu Avô is a stop motion film that is inspired by figures by one of the masters of figuration from Barcelos, Rosa Ramalho, for which the Gaiteiros created the soundtrack, from which material will also be produced for a concert that is, […]
Legendary duo from Providence, Rhode Island. It’s not an exaggeration. Look at the last three decades of rock music and few bands have caused such an upheaval to the foundations of a genre that seems destined to be saved from time to time – which is not even true. Germinated by Brian Gibson (bass) and Brian Chippendale (drums) at the heart of the inspiring Rhode Island School Of Design in 1994, they roamed the most urgent and honest North American underworld for years, in the circuit of suspicious bars, houses, student unions, community lofts, streets and more or less improvised places which is, after all, where the most vital and active energy is spread to make things happen, always off stage and in line with ‘Our Band Could Be Your Life’ – all very well documented in inspiring documentary ‘The Power of Salad’ – to reach semi-stardom in 2003 with the classic ‘Wonderful Rainbow’. The band’s third album on Load, following a very lo-fi self-titled album and the patented sound on ‘Ride the Skies’, causing due amazement and reverence everywhere. Fair. Chippendale’s frantic but accurate drums and Chippendale’s riffs, textures and distortion-drenched melodies of Chippendale’s bass, driven by a voice […]

DAPUNKSPORTIF appeared at the end of 2004 in Peniche (Portugal) based on the duo and creative nucleus João Guincho and Paulo Franco, longtime companions in other projects, and the producer Marco Jung. Despite the various musical influences, everything leads us to the presence of a Rock band in the true sense of the word. A visceral Rock supported by the riffs of electric guitars with no speed limit and hitchhiking with a wild rhythm section. The elements that make up his live training are: Paulo Franco (vocals and guitar), João Guincho (guitar), Fred Ferreira (drums), Vicente Santos (keys) and Filipe Brito (bass). Old, New, Fast’n’Slow is the fifth album of originals and will be released on June 3rd under Rastilho Records. It will be presented on the same date at the Village Underground, in Lisbon. The album is about is the confrontation we have daily with the world around us and with all the irreherent dichotomies. It is the soundtrack that shakes us and instrumentally personifies the questions we create. There are 10 songs that exude rock’n’roll. Where the guitar riffs embrace the warmth of the bass, the keys create a warm and dancing ambience and the drums guide us […]
Kenny Carpenter is an artist who has lived through many facets of the New York nightlife. It all started at the mythical Studio 54, where he took care of lighting together with Walter Gibbons, until he became one of the club’s resident DJs for more than two decades. Kenny has gone through other legendary venues such as Galaxy 21, The Inferno and even Bond’s International Casino, both as a lighting technician and also as a DJ. As a producer and entertainer, the DJ maintains close relationships with his contemporaries (and friends) Frankie Knuckles, David Morales or Little Louie Vega, and artists such as Wendy Lewis, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Majestic K. Funk. Lisbon DJ M.Dusa is known for her absolute devotion to music. In her two decades of living in booths, the most defining characteristic of her approach to the mission of sharing music is her unusual ability to bridge the gap between accessible and underground styles. Fruit of a vast musical culture, without being categorized or limited in genres, and of an uncommitted and independent perspective to dance music. For M.Dusa, being a DJ and giving yourself to music is not about the spotlight or egos, but a way […]

‘Voice revealed last year with the magnificent debut album “Forever, Ya Girl”, Chakeiya Richmond signs while keiyaA one of the most genuine and promising adventures for the coming years. It is without crystal balls, but with the intuition of the real, that the artist has aroused curiosity and reverence around her. Listening to it, with that confessional delivery and always certain notion that less is more, reminds us of the lesson given by Kendrick Llamar with good kid, m.A.A.d city. The narrative of the songs or the aesthetic irreverence in the production stand out immediately, in a sound novel somewhere between the vision of Afro-futurism and the constant political-social struggle on the streets of New York – and the world. If everything starts from R&B, or its most recognizable structure, it is immensely unfair to understand it only from that prism. One of the reasons that makes it so fascinating is precisely this detachment from the common ground; she strums and infects some of the most deviant electronics, feeling the latent energy of jazz or soul like a primal spark. It is a refreshing and rewarding experience, remembering, from the outset, that avant-garde is not just about conceptual complexity or […]

Baleia Piloto was born in 2017 between conversations and wanderings of three friends, next to the sea wall that connects Cascais to Lisbon. In these meetings came a creative impulse to make songs that mixed old memories with sonic landscapes yet to be explored. Antero Assane (Switchtense, Prague, Airbuzz) plays the drums and marks the pulse of the songs. David Matos (Prague, Airbuzz) improvises bass melodies on bass and synthesizer. Nuno Lopes (Prague) holds the guitar and dreams of timbre at his fingertips. Everyone sings. They create modern music from old memories. Songs with curves and setbacks, where languages are mixed to perceive the silence, because it is in the pauses that they gain momentum. “Irmão do Meio”, the 4th single came out on May 13, 2021, an ethereal song where dreamlike landscapes and environments that explore new sounds are drawn. The band is now preparing the release of the 1st album of originals to be presented on the 17th of June at Village Underground in Lisbon. The first part will be performed by David Pires (ex-Os Pontos Negros) who returns to perform solo, ten years later, with a handful of new and reassuring songs, among them the single ‘Fado-Redenção’. Margem is inspired by the 1937 novel by Jorge Amado, “Capitães de Areia”, which portrays a group of abandoned children and adolescents who live on the streets of São Salvador da Bahia, stealing to eat, and sleeping in a warehouse – a warehouse where, like a kind of family, they protect each other and survive one day at a time. 80 years after the book was published, we wanted to question who the new sand captains are, inspired by the social reality of these children, and aware that there are not always happy endings. Who are these people who are put on the sidelines, and when does this marginalization begin? In the starting house of life, do we all have the same chances or do some start to fight already in deficit? Are there ways to break this? Which are? Seriously? Sure? Is the new world that we have managed to build with all our ideals of equality for all really admirable? In an idea of documentary theater, and in collaboration with Joana Craveiro, this project is based on work with young people who were deprived of education, food, affection, a father, a mother, young people who committed crimes, young […]

Radio Antechamber The space we inhabit is not just built of walls. One of those spatial matters, which we don’t see but feel with the body and the head, is sound. Sound, which is also the place for words, is a fundamental dimension of architecture. By presenting this perceptive dimension of space, this exhibition explores the ways in which architecture constructs our everyday experience of space and the environment. The exhibition’s central component is a recording studio that, from February to September 2022, will host Rádio Antecâmara, a radio that broadcasts architecture and uses radio waves and digital circuits to question and expand notions of the city, fighting for making the city a heterogeneous place of encounter and discovery. In orbit around the performative and inhabited space of the studio, the contents of the exhibition will demonstrate how sound shapes our perception of space and that the matter of buildings is not always visible. Tony Conrad (Concord, New Hampshire, USA, 1940 – Cheektowaga, New York, 2016) was one of the biggest names in experimentalism in Western art in the last fifty years. His work covers areas as diverse as music, installation, painting or cinema, and his works are critical and humorous responses to the most varied normative aspects of culture. For this exhibition, included in a tour whose last appearance took place at MAMCO, in Geneva, several of his most important works were brought together, including the Yellow Movies (1972-73) or the installations Panopticon (1988) and WiP (2013). , but also a set of the “acoustic tools” he invented and some of the works in which he wanted to dissect the functioning of contemporary media and institutions. The historic The Flicker (1966) will also be present in this anthology, with two presentations of this landmark of structuralist cinema being planned in the auditoriums of Culturgest. Throughout his public career, Conrad’s works have been shown in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern, L.A. Museum of Contemporary Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Documenta or the Venice Biennale. This is the first exhibition of this unavoidable figure of contemporaneity in our country. Source: […]
Daniel Dewar (Forest of Dean, UK, 1976) and Grégory Gicquel (Saint-Brieuc, France, 1975) began their artistic collaboration in the late 1990s, while they were still university students. Their journey began with the presentation in public space, and without prior announcement, of long-term performances (the eight hours of work) in which they reproduced, over and over again, the same gestures or the same apparently simple and mundane actions, as bounce a ball on the floor or eat ice cream. This idea of commitment and task was combined, shortly afterwards, with an obsession with productive autonomy and independence from all types of third-party services, a circumstance that launched them on an epic journey to recover traditional crafts such as terracotta work, wood , stone or textile, and even for the design of the very instruments with which they transform these materials. The result of this work offers us glimpses of a world in everything similar to ours, only slightly distorted: enlarged, fragmented, duplicated, merged, failed, mixed, metamorphosed, as if these objects were instances of a parallel universe where the absurd is not sign of an existential anguish but precisely the opposite. Strangeness first and curiosity later: these were the ingredients that allowed the intercultural dialogue that gave rise to the introduction of original iconographic themes and repertoires that are reflected in the works of art present in the Portuguese Presence Exhibition in Asia. Thus, objects from India, produced from European models, but with local techniques and raw materials – to initially satisfy an ecclesiastical clientele and, later, orders from European noble and bourgeois elites – are manifested here in the liturgical implements, textiles, jewellery, furniture, ivory objects, safes, counters, revealing the symbolism and symbiosis of the two cultures. The same happened in Japan, where the contacts established between the Japanese and the first Portuguese, gave rise to a unique artistic manifestation known as “namban art” of which the screens, counters, oratories, helmet and stirrups are eloquent examples. The great fascination exercised by Chinese and Japanese cultures, since the 16th century, remained until the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with Portuguese intellectuals Camilo Pessanha and Manuel Teixeira Gomes, who became reference figures in the art of collecting. By collecting iconic objects from these cultures – such as scroll paintings, Chinese painting albums, costumes, objects for scholars, Chinese snuff […]

Visual Natures The Politics and Culture of Environmentalism in the 20th and 21st Centuries The result of more than two years of critical research in climate science, creative practices and ecopolitics, Naturezas Visuais is the continuation of the journey started in 2021 with the scientifically based installation Earth Bits – Sentir o Planeta and the public program Climate: Emergency. > Emergente, curated by maat’s first Climatic Collective. This research project studies the practices of collective action at the political, social and cultural level that, in the last hundred years, have been demonstrating how the transforming human understanding of “nature” – philosophical, biological and economic – is in the foundation of our communities’ ways of organizing, subsistence and governance as an expanding planetary model, both conceptually and practically. The resulting mapping makes a cross reading of four themes of study – artistic production and cultural events, technological innovations and scientific discoveries, social movements and reflections on global governance – which follows an approximate chronological order, from the 1950s to the 1950s. our days. To the challenge of the encyclopedic nature of the project, the presentation responds with the organization in three major linked themes – Deep Ecology (1950–1980), Planetary Complex (1990–2010) […]

Guided Tour On the occasion of the Portugal-France 2022 Season, maat presents for the first time in Portugal a broad overview of Antoine de Galbert’s personal collection. Inspired by the history and original function of the exhibition site, the theme of the night quickly established itself. Built at the beginning of the 20th century to supply electricity to Lisbon and its surroundings, the Tejo Power Station is testimony to the transformation that took place at the beginning of the last century with the generalization of electricity and lighting introduced by power stations. Together with the psychoanalysis then emerging, this energetic revolution transformed the night and the relationship we have with it. An inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists, the night continues to feed and impregnate the works with the questions it raises, whether philosophical, political, societal, ecological or scientific. A source of hope or anguish, it is also a space-time of freedom and transgression that is so convenient for creation and which the collection made by Antoine de Galbert echoes. Through a journey conceived as a crossing, from dusk to dawn, from blindness and the loss of references to the hope for better days on the horizon, from night dreams […]
The cultural diversity that characterizes the city of Lisbon does not soften the many stories of a segmented and antagonistic metropolis. Interferes is an exhibition that affirms different expressions of urban culture, exploring narrative itineraries of the city through a dialogue that privileges the museum as a critical space, a meeting place between various communities and sensitivities – those installed who frequent it and those who are subalternized who are unaware of it – , starting point for new beginnings. The maat thus becomes a stage for timeless utopias and struggles, emerging tensions, stories told and yet to be told. Organized in nuclei, the exhibition addresses various themes that structure the design of the metropolis, generating dialogues between this stage and its actors. These are also the themes that set the tone for an agenda of events that contributes to the narrative of Interferences, part of which it is intended to generate contributions that will integrate the exhibition, making it a dynamic project revealed over the six months in which it will be on display. to the public.

Augusto is a 35-year-old Brazilian immigrant who lives in Portugal with his mother Inês and dog Clarinha. In addition to serving and enduring his mother’s scorn on a daily basis, Augusto has a job he hates. His only pleasure is in going to the theater often, where he can forget about his problems and give himself over to a strong feeling of ecstasy. With an increasingly oppressive personal life, Augusto intensifies his trips to the theater, but they don’t seem to be enough. Obsessed, he starts questioning some actors at the end of the shows, starts interrupting performances to ask for more delivery, until one day, in the middle of an argument, he ends up assaulting a director. Augusto’s bad reputation becomes nationally known and theaters start putting up signs at the box office, which forbid him to enter. No longer possible to be public, he decides to be an actor. He looks for numerous companies and artists, but they refuse for various reasons, even because of what they consider to be another language, “Brazilian”. Desperate, Augusto executes a coup: taking a spectacle by force. He kidnaps the actors of a company on the day of a premiere and takes […]

Cepa Torta Company Change. This word that always seems to mean the destruction of something for the construction of something else that favors us, homo sapiens. How to believe in the end of the world and be happy? How to escape the lack of hope? In theater/conference format, it presents a raw portrait of human impacts on the planet throughout history and today, from the first mass extinctions with the arrival of humans in Australia, in 45,000 BC, to the plastic islands that colonized large Pacific areas. It addresses (and criticizes) current attempts to change the world for the better, and future prospects for our species and its surroundings. INSONIA is a show directed by Olga Roriz for a renewed cast and created in partnership with the creative team of the previous plays. The entry of new elements in the body of dancers renews points of view and aesthetic options. Dancers of five nationalities: Portuguese, Italian, English, Polish and Cuban, the result of an international audition. A claim to the place of the body, from its energy to its fragility. The restless body of exposed flesh. The savagery of being a woman or being a man in the same erotic world. The identity, origin, memories of each of the performers were put to the test, confronting the past, the present, the future and the vital connection with the origins. The inexorable passage of time. A study of the feminine and the masculine, the male and the female without defined sex, without gender. Since eroticism is a vague concept, not palpable from the imagination, it had to be concretized, intellectualized. In the first period of creation, much thought was produced in the form of writing. This is one of those texts: «Erotism is a trap of all definitions and interpretations. Eroticism is the game of solitary, it is a solitary […]
“Lar Doce Lar”, the show that brought together for the first time on stage Joaquim Monchique and Maria Rueff, returns for a new season at Teatro Maria Matos from 7 April. Two elderly women who share a room at the Anturios Dourados Senior Residence embark on a wild competition for a private room after the “departure” of its previous occupant. With the comic brilliance that we are used to, Maria Rueff and Joaquim Monchique unfold into multiple characters and take us on a troubled and hilarious journey through the four corners of this sweet home. “Lar Doce Lar” originally premiered in 2012. With a vibrant text, reinforced by the vivacity and intelligence of Rueff and Monchique’s interpretations, it quickly achieved a great success with the public that would be repeated in 2015. This year the doors of the Anturios Dourados Residence will open again and offer another opportunity to witness live the enormous talent of two absolutely unavoidable names in national comedy.

Children from 6 to 11 years old (accompanied by an adult) What happens in a Question Workshop? “Here we learn what things are, what words are. we walk to see what exists, what is real, we explain the words and the questions!” – Marco said, when evaluating one of the philosophy workshops. These are intended to be a space and a time to stop to think, “train” the critical eye, explore possibilities and investigate – together. How does a Question Workshop take place? In the workshops, we try to identify problems, in the form of questions, to investigate together. We can do this by reading a text or a newspaper article, a situation experienced by children or even images, videos. The resources can be diverse and must be adapted to the ages of the children with whom we are going to work. From there, conditions for dialogue are built, establishing some rules, such as, for example, to speak, we ask for the floor (we put our arm in the air). Adaptation of the Original Book JOHANNA SPYRI 58th production of the TIL-Lisbon Children’s Theater “Heidi”, a classic for all times and cultures that conquered the world. The purity of thought and the naive wisdom of this character leads us to essential themes, such as gender equality, inclusion, difference and saudade.

For M.Dusa, being a DJ and giving yourself to music is not about the spotlight or egos, but a way […]
“Nas Asas do Sonho” makes known through fantasy and theatrical magic some events and personalities that, in different ways, opened paths that would make possible the realization of one of Man’s oldest dreams: to fly! Here the double story of aviation and theater is told. From the stratagems of Icarus, through the vicissitudes of the Montgolfier brothers to the agonies of the animals that first traveled in space, but also of Gusmão and his Passarola. Special emphasis is given to the great adventure that had Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral as protagonists. It is a refreshing and rewarding experience, remembering, from the outset, that avant-garde is not just about conceptual complexity or […]

blue purposeful A show created with the community, about citizenship, about belonging to places, about political consciousness and about the endemic conflict between individual and collective interests. The apparent functional austerity, puffy and monotonous, of a condominium meeting obscures a variety of events and revelations of an intrinsically theatrical nature that this project proposes to dismantle and expose. The consequences can be serious and provoke laughter or tears, or upset more or less deeply rooted religious and political convictions. Theatrical fun arises from a bitter taste in the mouth and is reflected in black comedy, psychological thrillers, knife-and-pot or “telenovela” novels, and tragedy. In this Agora, with walls and ceiling, what is authentic and self-represented in individuals is revealed, contradictions, idealizations, kindness and rudeness, cynicism, desire, loneliness, selfishness, the emptiness of soul, dogmas and prejudices. It is a space for debate and mutual help, for open conflict and for solving banal tasks, but also for epic “big statements”. “Condominium” is the microscale of political action and republican praxis. It is the place of confluence of action of a public nature and what is of the private order, the place of social organization in which the relations between will and duty […]
District Attorney Oriente Museum (Orient Foundation) Brief introduction What is haiku? Workshop With Leonilda Alfarobinha DATES Wednesdays | 22 and 29 June HOURS 15.00 to 17.00 PARTICIPANTS Max. 15 PRICE: €30 In haiku, each word must be placed in the right place. Haiku writing is an exemplary practice of debugging. But… what is haiku? What is evidence and what is mystery in this poetic form of Japanese origin? Haiku is beyond literature. It can be a way of life, a means of self-knowledge, a possibility for introspection and inner re-balance, a path to Nature. Let’s get to know Japanese poetry better, read and interpret some classic and modern haiku poems to, in the end, try to experience writing in this poetic way. Leonilda Alfarrobinha has a degree in Romance Philology and began studying Japanese language and culture in 1990. The haiku poetic form immediately attracted her attention. In 2003, she completed a postgraduate degree in General Oriental Studies and in 2007 she published a book of haikus in Portuguese, O Respirar das Flores. She has visited Japan several times and in 2015 she presented at the Catholic University a Master’s Dissertation entitled “To the Encounter of Nature […]
SYNOPSIS “A fire-colored bird passes by. The bell is silent. And I shake my hands wet from time, bringing them to my eyes my hands of today, with which I hold the life and truth of this hour.” This world and the other is the title of one of José Saramago’s books, written at a time when the author was apparently “only” a journalist. “A man who lived outside the city wall. And the city was himself.” Composed of 221 chronicles written and published, for the first time, in the newspaper A Capital between 1968 and 1969. “People’s history is made of tears, some smiles, a few small joys and a great final pain.” The conciseness and world that each of the stories contains reveals the writer’s genius right away. Its profound simplicity. Your huge inspiration. “Life is short, but there is much more to it than we are capable of living.” On November 16, 1922 José Saramago was born, 100 years later we have a greater heritage, his words, his world, his vision made thought, feeling, emotion. Olga Roriz Excerpts from the book “This world and the other” by José Saramago September 21
