Stelios Petrakis is a composer and virtuoso lyra player and laouto from the island of Crete (Greece), always interested in the musical dialogue between musicians from different musical genres.
His aim is to condense and present in a lively and interesting way his own Cretan compositions and the pieces of traditional music he most admires, drawing on his long familiarity with the music of the island of Crete.
Stelios Petrakis collaborated in concerts and recordings with great musicians of ethnic music, among them Ross Daly, L’Ham de Foc, Bijan and Keyvan Chemirani, Sylvain Barou, Ojos de Brujo, Patrick Vaillant, Kristi Stassinopoulou, Oneira, Giorgis Xylouris, Vassilis Stavrakakis , Manolo Garcia, among others.
Stelios Petrakis founded the Cretan Quartet, a Cretan music and dance group that has already been present at some of the most important festivals in the world, namely in India, Malaysia, USA, Morocco, Switzerland, France and Belgium. He also has an instrumental trio with Valencian multi-instrumentalist Efrén López and Franco-Iranian percussionist Bijan Chemirani.
