Name that we have come to find more and more often in the flow of movements that most interest in the interstices of jazz, improvisation, composition, looser rock and unprecedented proposals, Pedro Melo Alves joins ZDB to give new breath to the its Conundrum cycle started in 2018, continued in 2019 and since then on hiatus. In these two years, and counter-current with the dormancy and speculative tension of the pandemic, Melo Alves has shivered and has devised new forms and languages that had a particularly remarkable moment with the performance of his magnanimous Omniae Large Ensemble. Advanced throughout 2022, Melo Alves returns to this personal mystery that is Conundrum, a brave proposal that puts the drummer in a duo with someone he admires and with whom he has never performed before, in a total of six meetings. The first meeting takes place in January with João Barradas, followed by Rafael Toral in March and Carlos Barretto in May.
Without any prior plan or strategy, the silence is thus broken with music born organically and open to countless possibilities, glimpsing an infinite. BS
