The Song of the Earth
The Song of the Earth has a hybrid format, somewhere between the symphony and the song cycle. It was composed a little over a century ago, when Europe was experiencing a profound change of paradigms, also in the intellectual and artistic universes. Gustav Mahler maintained the link with the past, but looked for alternatives. He ostensibly superimposed scattered allusions, connoted with nature, with poetry, with philosophy, with personal life, with popular traditions and even with exoticisms borrowed from distant cultures. He brought together lyrical singing and orchestra in an erudition exercise with tremendous expressive density. Before that, we have the opportunity to wander through the timbral textures of Tua lágrima em mim, a composition by Ana Seara dating from 2009 that, with firm steps, has become a recurring repertoire in concert halls.
